We are scientists!

We have been investigating floating and sinking this week in our science lessons. First we sorted our objects into lots of different categories. We sorted by size, by weight, by sound and by material. Next we predicted which objects would float and which ones would sink. After that we investigated using a basin of water. Some of us changed our minds about our predictions once we tested them out. We had lots of fun working in our teams and the Dolphins got extra points for working really well together. We will use our new knowledge next week to help us with our next science...

Our green fingered gardeners

Our class are becoming great gardeners. Each week we have 2 gardeners who care for our class plants. In the school garden we have also been exploring how Mangetout peas grow from a seed. We observed and recorded photos of them sprouting, growing a stalk, buds and how they are growing in height every day. We used our prediction skills to predict what they would look like after a week and we were really surprised as to how much they have grown in such a short time. We learned that plants need water, air and sunlight to grow so our class gardeners have been working hard to provide these for the plants. Finally when they were strong enough we planted them into the school garden. We set to work building a teepee using bamboo sticks to support our plants.   Now our pea plants are growing in our school garden. We have learned how these plants depend on us to care for them and how they help us too by providing tasty and healthy vegetables to eat and nourish us. Be sure to look at the progress when you pass our garden. We can’t wait to taste our delicious mangetout...

Busy First Term

What a busy first term we have had in First Class. We have learned how to use Book Creator, so many songs and poems in Irish, our tables and counting in different numbers in maths and so much more too. We also have been working on being respectful, generous and kind stars.   We are excited to continue our learning journey after the Christmas break, when it will nearly be time to enter our brand new school! We hope everyone has a happy and safe break over the holidays. Happy Holidays and a joyful New Year to...

One Frosty Morning…

We have been learning all about winter. Yesterday we predicted what today’s weather would be like. Today we went on a weather hunt to see if we were correct. We set off with our i-pads, recording what winter felt like, sounded like and looked like. Here we are listening to the crunching sound our feet made on the frosty grass.     Back in the classroom we worked very hard to add our photos and findings to our Winter Weather Records using Book Creator. Finally Kayla, Leah, Aaron and Natalia presented their work to us on the interactive whiteboard....

We are Problem Solvers!

We have been solving lots of different problems the past few weeks in class. In our maths class, we learnt the R.U.D.E. way of solving problems. These letters stand for: Read, Underline, Draw, Estimate/Explain. It has really helped us tackle tricky word problems. We feel more confident now when we are problem solving. We made a video of our experience with problem solving below. Clink on the arrow to play it. We hope you enjoy our video!...

Video of our e-Learning Journey

We have had a very busy few weeks on our Digital Media journey. We each made our own e-books with lots of different modes of media, including text, voice recording, video, photos and digital art. We had so much fun during our projects. Watch our video of the process below. We hope you enjoy...
