Chinese New Year

This week in Senior infants, we have been celebrating Chinese New Year. This year is the year of the monkey. In Chinese classes,we have been learning the names of all the animals so we are now able to say it is the year of the Hóu. As part of our celebrations, we decided to make a whole-class dragon; the dragon is a very important symbol in Chinese culture and we watched some videos of Chinese New Year celebrations which involved lots of spectacular dragons in the parades.   We each painted a paper plate using only the primary colours; red, yellow and blue and then went on to make the secondary colours; orange, green and purple.  We each wrote our initials in Chinese in the middle of our paper plate. It was then time to turn each one into a beautiful flower by adding petals. We also learned that the flower is an important symbol in Chinese culture. When we put it all together, we were very impressed with our amazing work. Working together is always the best. We were very excited to show our Chinese teacher today and we had lots of fun learning about The Spring...

Active Bodies Active Minds

We are having a fantastic week in Lucan CNS being active as part of Active Week. We have been coming into school at 8:30 am and taking part in physical activities for 30 minutes going from station to station. In preparation for Active Week, we designed some art work to display on our windows in front of our school so we could spread the ‘Active Message’; ‘Get Fit’, ‘Get Active’, ‘Get Your Body Moving’. We are very proud of our work and we loved having the chance to do some art work linked to physical activity.     As well as keeping an active body we also learned about the importance of keeping an active mind. We did this through some yoga, we are very lucky that one of our parents in our class is a yoga teacher. We had a great afternoon learning about yoga and how it helps our bodies and minds. We were very relaxed after our lesson and we can’t wait to do some more.  ...

Budding Musicians

We are very lucky in Lucan CNS to have started the new year off with violin lessons. So far we have learned about the different parts of the violin, how to carefully open and close the case and how to hold the violin itself. We are extremely excited about starting to play it next week and Matt our teacher is very proud of our progress so far. Here’s to becoming the first Lucan CNS...

Multi-Faith Celebrations

During our first term at school we learned about and celebrated two religious festivals; Eid and Diwali. These were both very special celebrations in our class as we are very lucky to have children from both faith backgrounds in our class. They were able to tell us how their families celebrated at home and we found lots of similarities between different faiths in our class. To celebrate Eid, we learned a song along with some actions and to celebrate Diwali, we made paper lanterns. We hope you enjoy our...
